Why do we add in the new soft goods when we say we are a consignment shop? I’ll tell you why. We do it because soft goods do something very important in design.
When you try to decorate with all hard goods with similar texture, think polished brown furniture, you get a very one dimensional look. Everything feels flat and very uniform.
In good design it is the juxtaposition of materials that create interest. Fabric has texture and texture against a hard surface makes the hard surface interesting.
I think the photos below are a great example of how fabric, paper and books add interest to what would otherwise be a flat, uninteresting group of things. What do you think?
